The Soap Works interactive experience encourages children to engage with the STEM subjects and explores why we need soap, how it gets made and all the different ways we use it.

Funded by AIM Biffa Award, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund, the gallery was also supported by Unilever.

The team at Unilever Art, Archives and Records Management (UARM) have led the Unilever support and were involved from the initial concepts and ideas for the exhibition right through to object loans from Unilever’s collections. The exhibition includes:

  • Talking Heads – some of Unilever’s very own scientists from Research & Development labs in Port Sunlight and Port Sunlight Factory and health and safety staff discussing how Soap is made and how we work safely in our factories
  • UARM have loaned objects, film footage, and provided scans of original material that feature throughout the exhibition
  • Feedback and support with design process.
